Find Vet
The Find Vet page provides a way to search for a veterinarian's record within VSPS. Once you find the record, depending on your user role, you can view, edit, remove, inactivate, or hide it from view.
You should also use Find Vet to verify that a veterinarian does not yet have a record in VSPS. This step prevents duplication of veterinarian records.
NOTES:
Find Vet is used to search for veterinarians only. To search for VSPS users who are not veterinarians, select Administration from the left menu; then click Find User.
Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.
To select (or de-select) multiple values, press <Ctrl> on the keyboard while selecting the values.
Dates can usually be entered in two ways: using the calendar
, or typing them manually using mm/dd/yyyy format.
On the VSPS Home page, log into VSPS.
From the left menu, select Vet Accreditation.
In the Vet Accreditation module, click Find Vet.
There are two ways to search: Use Quick Finds or use the Find Vet Search Criteria.
Method A: Quick Finds
Core Applicants - Do not use at this time.
Pending Applications - Click, to find electronically-submitted applications of veterinarians who have applied for accreditation.
State * - Select the State in which application was submitted.
Click [Search].
Scroll to the bottom of the page to view the search results. The number of veterinarians found is shown above the list, along with how many are currently displayed. If there is more than one page of veterinarians, you can navigate to other pages to find the veterinarian record you are looking for by clicking on the page number if it is displayed, or on the appropriate arrow.
In this example, there are three pages of veterinarians: |<< <1,2,3> >>|
Navigation arrows:
(<<) Click to go to the first page.
(<) Click to go to the previous page.
(>) Click to go to the next page.
(>>) Click to go to the last page.
Method B: Find Vet Search Criteria
Enter search criteria into some of the following fields; the more information entered, the shorter the results list.
Last Name/First Name/Middle Initial - Name of the veterinarian. Note: If you do not know how to spell a name, use the asterisk (*) wildcard to replace unknown letters. Examples:
*ton would match Barton;
Will* matches Willard and Williams;
and *ring* matches Harrington and Ringwald.
Other Name - Alternate, maiden, or nicknames for this veterinarian; use asterisk (*) wildcard to replace any unknown letters.
Postal Code - Zip code or veterinarian's residence or work facility.
State License Number - License number issued by a State to the veterinarian, granting him the right to practice in that State. Use this feature with the State Accreditation drop-down to get # for a specific State.
School of Veterinary Medicine - School from which the veterinarian graduated. If the school name does not appear in the drop-down list, click the magnifying glass symbol
to open a search box. You can also use the magnifying glass to go directly to the school, without having to scroll through the long list.
Year of Graduation From/To - Click
to specify a date range in which the veterinarian graduated from veterinary school.
National Accred. Number (NAN) - Unique, VSPS-assigned number.
Note: To narrow your search, you can select a State in which the veterinarian is accredited from the Accreditation States drop-down, and use the wildcard (*) and one or two numbers of the veterinarian's NAN number in the National Accred. Number field.
For example: Select Colorado in the Accreditation States field, and enter *5 in the National Accred. Number field to search for a vet that's accredited in Colorado, and their NAN ends with the number 5.
Accreditation States - State(s) in which the veterinarian is licensed to practice as a Federally-accredited veterinarian.
Accreditation Category - Category assigned to the veterinarian, based on the number of APHIS-approved, accreditation training units he has completed.
Program Certification - Animal disease program certifications awarded to the veterinarian.
Initial Accreditation Date From/To - Click
to specify a date range in which the veterinarian was accredited.
Renewal Accreditation Date From/To - Click
to specify a date range in which the veterinarian renewed his accreditation.
Date Orientation Completed From/To - Click
to specify a date range in which the veterinarian completed his orientation.
State where Orientation Completed - State in which the veterinarian completed his orientation training.
Species Code(s) - Animal species the veterinarian may specialize in treating.
Species Category - Animal groups that the veterinarian's practice may focuses on.
Primary Medical Discipline - Discipline in which the veterinarian specializes.
Employment Type - Workforce category to which the veterinarian belongs.
Accreditation Status - Federal accreditation status of the veterinarian.
Contact Information Released to the Public - Check the Yes button to also search the records of veterinarians whose contact information is available on the VSPS Home page. Check No to exclude these records from your search. Click Clear to de-select choices selected.
Include Removed - Check this box to include in your search any veterinarian records that have been hidden. Note: This feature can only be performed by the NVAP National Coordinator role.
Click the Search button. Note: To clear previously entered search criteria, use the Clear Form button.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to view the search results. Refer to Method A for instructions to navigate within the search results to find the veterinarian record you are looking for.
Depending on your role, you may have access to some or all of the following items in the Action column next to each veterinarian record.
[View] - Click to open a veterinarian record. The record has several tabbed pages in it. Your user role determines how much of this record you can see.
[Remove] - Click to hide the veterinarian record. Note: This feature can only be performed by the NVAP National Coordinator role.
[Un-remove] - Click to make a previously-removed veterinarian record visible again.
[Edit] - Click to open the veterinarian record. The record has several tabbed pages in it. Click on a tab to bring it forward so you can edit it.
[Add 1-36A] - Click to open a 1-36A Form. This form is used to document six specific changes to a veterinarian record. These changes are:
initial accreditation data;
authorization in a new State;
accreditation category data;
contact information data (including name changes);
accreditation renewal data;
and Post-revocation Re-accreditation data (allows a vet with a Federal Action removed, to reapply)
[View Application] - This appears if the veterinarian has submitted the form online. Click to open a 1-36A Form to view the information mentioned above in [Add 1-36A].
Scroll to the bottom of the list.
The Export options: Excel feature is located on the right-hand side.
Click Excel.
A File Download window is displayed.
Click the Save button to save the spreadsheet to a location of your choice; this is the recommended option. Click the Open button to view the spreadsheet on-screen; this IS NOT the recommended option; you will get "kicked out" of VSPS, and have to login again...
Above the search results list, click [Add Veterinarian from Criteria].
This takes you to the Create Veterinarian Record page.
Notice that the search criteria has already populated the corresponding fields, so you don't have to re-enter it.
