Define New
As a Veterinarian, Veterinarian Assistant or Practice Member will need to associate animals with your CVI. If you intend to do paperwork for this animal only once (i.e. moving to a feed lot or abattoir) you can add this animal on-the-fly through the "Define New" function on the CVI. When you use the "Define New" function you are not storing this animals information in your animal address book, you are only associating this animal with this CVI.
To add an animal to your Animal Address Book and a CVI at the same time:
While on the CVI you selected [Define New Animal] from the Select Action drop-down. The Create Animal page displays.
Animal Book: From the drop-down menu, select the Animal Book.
You can create an individual animal or group of animals and add directly to your Animal Book for future use and general records.
You can create an individual animal and not add it to your Animal Book if you anticipate not having a history with this animal.
You can create a group of animals (except equine), chose to add or not to an Animal Book. The intended use of this option is for shipping a herd and there is no anticipation of having a history with this herd.
For a single animal entry complete the following fields:
Animal Information:
*Animal Classification - auto-populated from the CVI information.
*Animal Breed - From the drop-down menu, select the breed.
Date of Birth - Click
and select the date.
*Animal Gender - From the drop-down menu, select the gender.
Animal Identification:
Enter animals' identification where appropriate.
Consignor / Origin:
These fields are auto-populated from the CVI information and you are not able to edit.
If this animal is not equine, continue with Step 4.
If this is an equine you will have an Equine Details tab. Click this tab to the front and complete the following fields:
Equine Details:
From the drop-down menus, select the appropriate markings.
Narrative Description: Enter any descriptive remarks or characteristics regarding this animal that you want saved with this animals' information. This space is limited to 70 characters.
Equine Photos:
When entering details for equine you will have the option of up-loading photos, enter the location of the photo manually or click
to search for the location of your photos. Select a photo of the left body side of animal, front facial, and, right body side. You will be able to update these photos as the animal matures and/or markings change when you add this animal to a future eCVI by changing the location of the picture here.
Uploaded images must be JPEG, GIF or PNG format, and must be under 4MB.
Images will automatically resize to 640x480 pixels so the lowest resolution setting on a digital camera should be sufficient. Camera phones may not have sufficient resolution and clarity, so use digital cameras whenever possible.
Fill the frame 90% with the horse and without people in the picture.
Inside of barns and sale barns may require additional light on the horse, consider moving the horse to better lighting conditions if possible. If outside try to have your back to the sun.
Consider viewing the pictures while you are still at the client site.
Separate the legs to show white marks.
Halters and/or lead ropes are great but no other tack should be visible.
If the horse has no marks and clean tips but has hair whorls or signalments important to its unique physical description, you may want close ups of that particular area.
You may want to have pictures of the horse in both their summer and winter look.
If you are taking pictures of many horses, consider taking the first picture of the horse’s call name on the halter, stall door or other location where the name may be displayed - it will help you sort and save them on you computer.
VSPS offers an over-ride function to an existing picture in case of mistakes or horses that change color with age.
Continue with Step 4.
